NY Mini 10K + Big Apple BBQ

It's a good thing I ran the NYMini 10K in the morning so I could fully "FULLY" enjoy the Big Apple BBQ in Madison Square Park.

Early Saturday morning I jumped out of bed, laced up my racing flats and warmed up to the starting line 2 blocks from Columbus Circle.  It was really neat to have all of Central Park blocked off for our race.  It was the 40th annual New York Mini 10K and this year it was in honor of the legendary runner Grete Waitz who passed away on April 19th.  This race always has a huge turnout (this year 4500+ runners) with many professional athletes who travel in from South Africa, Kenya, Australia, Canada, South America, Japan, etc.  Our race included 13 Olympians...who all ran VERY fast!  All in all a great race!

Later that afternoon we headed over to the Big Apple BBQ in Madison Square Park.  Each year we somehow seem to miss the event...but thankfully a friend let us know and we made sure to make it over.  We will be back!  The best BBQ restaurants from around the US gathered all around the park grilling up the best ribs we've ever tasted.

Jeremiah didn't really eat all those boxes...just in case you were wondering!...although he wishes!  there were many BBQ enthusiasts there eating away.

This place above, The Checkered Pig, was incredible...we especially loved their sign!

This is a dream for sure! You DO the 10K and do the honors with the Olympians. You forgot to tell everyone that you took first place. Oh yes you did!! So fun biking CP with you today....and SOHo and lunch and gypsying in line etc etc. Love you and love NYC. I'll take a rib or two asap! Korea town here we come!
